In the first quarter of 2021, Mercedes-Benz increased its global sales by 22.3%

Mercedes-Benz sold 590,999 passenger cars worldwide in the first quarter of 2021, owing to the high demand for plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles in China and the United States. In comparison to the same time last year, revenues have increased by 22.3 percent globally.

  • One out of every four Mercedes-Benz and smart cars sold in Europe was an xEV.
  • About 59,000 plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles were sold globally, accounting for around 10% of total sales, with over 16,000 all-electric vehicles sold.
  • The EQA, which was released in January of this year, has also been well received. The EQA has already received 20,000 orders.

Given the positive start, the company plans to introduce three new models this year: the EQS, EQB, and EQE.

  • The current global shortage of some semiconductor components impacted deliveries in the first quarter and will continue to impact sales in the second quarter.
  • The business keeps a close eye on the situation and maintains regular contact with the suppliers.

Mercedes-Benz sales in the Asia-Pacific region increased by 46.6 percent, owing to continued strong sales growth in China, which set a new record with 222,520 cars delivered in Q1. In January, China’s vehicle sales nearly hit 100,000 in a single month.

Despite ongoing lockdown initiatives in many countries, brand deliveries in Europe were slightly above Q1 2020 at the start of the year. Mercedes-Benz sold 54,446 cars in Germany, a 15.4% decrease, while sales in North America totaled 88,318 units, a 12.5 percent increase.

In India, the company saw a 34% increase in revenue in the first quarter of 2020, boosted by good January and February sales that stayed at pre-COVID levels.
