Dr. KK Aggarwal Passed Away on May 17 After Battling a Long Fight With Covid-19

Dr. KK Aggarwal, former president of the Indian Medical Association, a great cardiologist, and a well-known face of the medical fraternity in the country, passed away last night after battling covid-19 for a long time. He had been on ventilator support at Delhi’s AIIMS for a few days.

Dr. Aggarwal aged 62, died at 11:30 pm on Monday, after a lengthy battle with covid-19, said an official statement on his Twitter account. Though, he had taken both the vaccine doses.

“Ever since he became a doctor, Padma Shri Dr. KK Aggarwal has dedicated his life to the welfare of the public and raising health awareness. Even during the pandemic, he made constant efforts to educate the masses and was able to reach out to over 100 million people through numerous videos and educational programs and saved countless lives,” said the statement.

He was rewarded with the Padma Shri award in 2010. Dr. Aggrawal also headed the heart care foundation of India.

He had been involved in raising public awareness about covid-19 and posted various posts and videos since the pandemic came. Dr. KK Aggarwal also posted about vaccine hesitancy and misconceptions on Facebook, sharing a Q/A video about it. He posted that video after he got the second dose of the vaccine in February.

Dr. kk also appealed in a video to “avoid alcohol consumption one week before and after taking the vaccine”. The information about black fungus was posted by the account manager a day after it.

His family wrote: “He wanted his life to be celebrated and not mourned.”

Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal also showed condolences for the doctor and paid tribute to the popular doctor.

Dr. Aggarwal, a cardiologist, also headed the Heart Care Foundation of India. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010.

Since the pandemic broke out last year, he had been vocal on various aspects of the coronavirus and had posted several videos and statements to raise public awareness. After he took his second vaccine dose in February and had posted a Q and A video on Facebook to address hesitancy and misconceptions.

On May 12, he appealed in a video posted from his handle to “avoid alcohol consumption one week before and after taking the vaccine”. A day later, information on black fungus was posted by those managing his account while he was in the hospital.

His family wrote: “He wanted his life to be celebrated and not mourned.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also showed condolences to the unfortunate death of Dr. KK.

“The passing away of Dr. KK Aggarwal is a setback for the whole nation. He acted all his life for the health rights of common people especially poor, deprived and marginalized. A great human being. RIP!” – he tweeted.

“My heartfelt condolences at the passing away of former Indian Medical Association president, Padma Shri Dr KK Aggarwal. His services as a doctor shall always be remembered. May God give strength to his family members to bear this loss. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
“We lost a great doctor today,” was tweeted by “AIIMS Doctors Unity”.
