Delhi lockdown for 6 days from 10 pm tonight to 5 am next Monday has been imposed by CM Arvind Kejriwal, by taking in view the critical surge of covid-19 spread. Essential services remain open.
“If we don’t impose a lockdown now, we might face a bigger calamity. The government will take full care of you. We took this tough decision taking the situation into consideration,” Arvind Kejriwal said.
“The six-day lockdown will help us arrange more beds and supplies.”
CM said that we are running out of oxygen and ICU beds drastically, sharing the condition of private oxygen which had run out of oxygen at 3 am, which could have lead to a crisis.
“We are not trying to scare you…I won’t say the health system has collapsed but it is really stressed. There are limits to any system,” he further said.
He also requested the migrants to not leave Delhi between this short lockdown.

All offices and work will again go on work from home, except the government offices and essential services.
The essential services including grocery stores, medicine, banks, ATM’s and insurance offices remain open. Home food delivery and takeaways will be allowed.

As of Sunday, Delhi has observed a high jump in the covid spread with 25,462 new cases and a positivity rate of 30%. This reveals that every third sample being tested is positive. Also, on Saturday 24,375 cases were observed with 167 deaths in the city.
This morning, a weekend curfew enforced to “break the chain of transmission” came to an end. Continuing violations in parts of the city in the past two days also signaled that harsher steps were needed, officials said.
CM Arvind Kejriwal took this decision after he met with the lieutenant governor Anil Baikal.
Although, some earlier restrictions were made on auditoriums, malls, gyms, restaurants, spas to remain shut. The movie theaters are allowed only with a third capacity. All gatherings including social, religious, and political were banned. Weddings and funerals were limited to only 50 participants. These all restrictions will still stand.
