According to this presentation, in the first week of April, an average of 34.6 lakh vaccinations was done per day. This figure includes both those who received the first dose and those who received the second dose.
ISB’s presentation on COVID-19 vaccine shortage and related issues before the NITI Aayog was prepared by Professor Sarang Deo, Professor Sripad Devalkar, and research associates Abhishek Reddy and Syed Junaid.
Average vaccination rates signify considerable variability in rates. Typically, vaccination rates are low on Sundays and highest on Mondays. In the first week of April, while the average daily vaccination rate was 34.6 lakh doses, it was only 17.3 lakh doses on 4 April (Sunday) and as high as 45 lakh doses on 5 April (Monday), “Professor Devalkar” Times India.
Deo reported that substantial stocks of the vaccine were initially produced and distributed to the states because the initial uptake of vaccination was very low. But when the vaccination rate began to rise, there was enough stock to take off in the first week of April.
According to one of the researchers, the government needs to be wary of the limitations of vaccine delivery capacity as vaccination against COVID-19 has not extended beyond urban and semi-urban areas in most states. He said that regular vaccination is being done in the anganwadis located below the Primary Health Center (PHC).
