The rest of the IPL to be held in UAE in September- October says BCCI

As of Saturday, the board of control for cricket in India announced that the rest of IPL will be held in the United Arab emirates. The board has come up with the decision to organize the remaining IPL matches in September and October because of the monsoon season in those months. The decision was made by the BCCI’s s special general meeting which was held virtually on Saturday. Though, IPL was postponed on May 4, when several players and support staff across the team tested positive for covid-19.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year,” BCCI said in a release.

However, the decision came at a special general meeting, which was held virtually, where members unanimously agreed to restart the IPL.

“The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.”

The IPL has been postponed after a burst of covid-19 infection emerged in the bio-bubble with players and support staff from Kolkata knight riders, Chennai super kings, and sunrises Hyderabad among other teams testing positive for the coronavirus in series.

About 29 matches were held this season before the tournament came to a pause.

May 3 was postponed after two players in the Kolkata knight riders camp- Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive, KKR’s match against royal challengers Bangalore was postponed.
