  • This incarnation of Goddess Durga is believed to have created the universe with a smile that radiated incredible energy.
  • She also symbolizes a divine spark. Devotees offer prayers to Goddess Kushmanda to achieve salvation.
  • She is hailed as the one who dispels darkness to give birth to light. The word Kushmanda in Sanskrit is made of two words – Ku (little), ushma (energy or heat), and anda (egg).
  • Kushmanda’s pictorial depiction shows her with eight hands, and hence she is also called Ashtabhuja Devi.
  • She holds a lotus, bow, and arrow, and a kamandal in the right hands and a discus, mace, a jaapmala, and a Kalash in the left hand.
  • The Goddess, who is mounted on a lion, governs the Sun. Therefore, people worship her to get rid of the illness.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु माँ कूष्माण्डा रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Kushmanda Rupena Samsthita।

Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah॥

कूष्मांडा जय जग सुखदानी।

भीमा पर्वत पर है डेरा।

स्वीकारो प्रणाम ये मेरा॥

सबकी सुनती हो जगदम्बे।
