With the opening of vaccination for 18 years and above, the PM will have a meeting with covid-19 vaccine manufacturers today, as of Tuesday, the sources said. During the meeting, scheduled to be 6 pm today, the department of biotechnology will make a presentation and also coordinate with all participants, as per the sources said.

Representatives of the top drugmakers from India and abroad of those companies who already have been approved by the government of India are expected to be present in the meeting. As yet two vaccines, oxford AstraZeneca Covidshield vaccine manufactured by serum institute of India, and aboriginally developed Covaxin by Bharat Biotech are being administered in India. However, one more vaccine sputnik V developed by dr. reddy’s laboratory has been approved by Indian drug regulators.

Other globally developed vaccines include those of Pfizer, Moderna, and johnson and johnson are expected soon in India. The spread of covid-19 infection is crossing 1.5 crores cases, therefore the Indian government has allowed the 18 years and above individuals for administering vaccines.
The decision has been made to liberalize the vaccination drive by allowing private hospitals and industrial establishments to get hold of a portion of vaccine doses directly by the manufacturers.
The scheduled meeting by video conferencing will follow the discussions of PM Narendra Modi with top doctors and representatives on Monday.
PM also held a series of other meetings with government officials and stakeholders to discuss the covid-19 surge and vaccination drive.
