Maharashtra’s first death from the Delta Plus variant was reported in Ratnagiri after an 80-year-old man died today, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said, adding that all others were stable.

In the last 24 hours, 51,667 new cases have been registered in India, while 64,527 patients have been cured. The Food and Drug Agency of the Philippines said it has approved the emergency use of a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Indian company Bharat Biotech.

A new study has suggested that the delta has become a dominant variant in India due to its superior ability to jump to new hosts and wipe out large parts of population immunity in people. A lockdown has been ordered in the central Sydney areas and officials have issued a list of public demonstration venues in Sydney, regional NSW, and Canberra ACT.
