The new BMW flagship X8 SUV has been spotted at the Nürburgring

While BMW hasn’t confirmed its existence, these new spy photos show that the Bavarian automaker is working on a new flagship X8 SUV that will be larger and more luxurious than the X7. Our spy photographers captured a prototype while it was being tested on the German Nürburgring race track, which was shrouded in camouflage to hide the design details. The black and white clothing, on the other hand, reveal a few specifics that rule out a BMW X7 facelift.

  • The hood has a new style with prominent character lines, and the front looks flatter than the X7. To offer the X8 a distinct identity, the lower air intake appears to be reshaped, and the headlights tend to be placed lower than the X7’s, while the X7’s massive kidney grilles appear to be carried over.

  • The X8 was expected to have a coupe-style roofline, but instead, the flagship SUV will have an extended flat roof to maximise cabin space. It’s unclear if the X8 would have three rows like the X7, but according to the latest article, it will come in four- and five-seat configurations.

  • The prototype had sticky Pirelli P-Zero 275 tyres in the front and 315-35/22 tyres in the back, according to our spies. The interior will be interesting as well, as the X8 will be the most luxurious model BMW has ever made, but our spies have yet to get a look inside.

Although the back of the X8 loaded off the transporter is visible, BMW has done a good job of concealing the outline of the taillights and exhaust pipes. This concept has an electrified powertrain, according to a popular hybrid test sticker on the rear.

The rumoured high-performance plug-in hybrid X8, codenamed X8 M45e. It will use the same powertrain as the 745e, which has a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six and a 389-bhp electric motor, as well as a 12-kWh battery that provides a 25-kilometre electric driving range. The X8 hybrid, on the other hand, is likely to have more power and a longer range.

Since the X8 is being built by BMW M, a hardcore hybrid X8 M is expected to be at the top of the line, with 750bhp, making it the most powerful BMW M model yet. The X8 is expected to make its debut in 2022, but BMW will offer a sneak peek at the upcoming flagship SUV before then.
