The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to conduct the Class 12 board examination from July 15 to August 26. The exact date sheet for the same will be issued on June 1, after the Board holds its review meeting. The board examination will be conducted in offline mode. A section of the students is demanding cancellation of the offline examination of Class 12 on the social media platform.
CBSE 12 Board Exam Schedule
- According to sources, CBSE has proposed to conduct the exam from 15 July to 26 August and declare the result in September. The final decision will be on 1 June.
- The examination, however, will not be conducted according to regular protocols.
- CBSE had suggested that either conduct the examination of only a few subjects or conduct the examination for 1.5 hours instead of three hours.
- In a meeting held yesterday between high-profile ministers and state education secretaries, most states have turned to the latter option.
- However, some ministers demanded a mixture of both possibilities.
CBSE 12 Board Exam pattern change due to COVID-19
- If Plan B is accepted, the exam pattern will also be changed.
- For the 1.5-hour exam, the exam will only have MCQ and very short type of questions to allow students to complete the exam in the given time.
- The examination will be of 90 minutes duration instead of three hours and will be conducted in the same schools where students are enrolled.
- The questions will be objective type and very short answer type. Students will have to come in one language and three optional subjects, “a source told news agency PTI.
- The provisional timeline for this option is the first phase of the exam from July 15 to August 1 and the second phase from August 8-26.
- The examination is also proposed to be held on Sunday.
If a Student Missed the Exam Due to a COVID-19 they can Give Later
- CBSE in its proposal had also suggested that in Scheme B, students can be given the option of appearing in the examination at a later stage as well, which would mean that if a student missed the exam due to a COVID-19 related issue they go, then they can join the examination board after about 15 days.
- However, whether this facility will be given or not, will be known on June 1.
- Also, the exam will be conducted amidst tight security. Social distancing will be followed for students to sit for the exam.
- Even in 2020, CBSE board examinations were conducted with caution, although the examinations had to be canceled midway.
What did Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal say?
- While parents and students had expressed concern about the health and concern of the third wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said, Both the safety, security, and future of students and teachers are supremely important for us.
- While the minister said there was a consensus, states including Maharashtra and Delhi have openly disagreed with the move.
- Pokhriyal has given the state up to May 25 to submit its detailed proposals to the states, particularly the disagreeing people. Source- News 18
What did Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia say?
- Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia who also holds the education portfolio said, The stubbornness to organize exams by playing with the safety of the children will prove to be a big mistake and a failure.
- He also demanded that class 12 students should be vaccinated before appearing for the exams.
- He suggested that either Pfizer (whose vaccine of kids has been accepted by several countries) should be consulted or should give our vaccine to kids after consulting with experts considering they are 17.5 years old and only months away from 18.
- People who have attained the age of 18 and above are eligible to get vaccinated in India.
Maharashtra has also proposed a non-examination route for evaluating Class 12 students. Varsha Gaikwad, Minister of Education for Maharashtra State School, said: Students and parents share concerns about taking the exam in a pandemic … Most professional courses offer entrance exams for admission, so many professionals class-based on retrospective evaluation. A model that believes it is possible to evaluate the grades of 12 students.
