By 2022, Mercedes-Benz plans to launch ten electric vehicles. Some, including the EQA compact hatchback and the EQB and EQC small SUVs, as well as hybrid commercial vehicles like the eVito and eSprinter vans, are already well-known.
We now have another series of spy shots of the big electric Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan, which will sit alongside the S-Class, ahead of its global debut on April 15. However, delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic are becoming more popular these days, so expect it to hit showrooms early this year as a 2021 model.
Despite the fact that Mercedes is working on a redesigned S-Class for 2020, the EQS will be entirely different and will also use a separate architecture, in this case, the MEA modular platform for electric cars that Mercedes previewed in its Generation EQ prototype shown at the 2016 Paris auto show.
Meanwhile, the latest S-Class will be built on the MRA platform, which is used in rear-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz models such as the C- and E-Class. Owing to a lack of room for large battery packs, the MRA platform cannot be used for electric vehicles.
