For more than a decade, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has been among India’s best-selling cars for a variety of reasons. It is the perfect combination of efficiency and practicality, and it meets the needs of the majority of Indian consumers. The car has a high value for money quotient, making it the blue-eyed boy of the Indian car industry.

The hatchback underwent a minor facelift a few months ago that included minor cosmetic changes as well as an updated powertrain. Despite a significant price increase, the facelifted Swift continues to appeal to a large number of buyers. Suzuki is already preparing to build a new generation of Swift, as previously noted.

The third-generation Swift made its international debut in December 2016, and it went on sale in India a few months later in 2017. The new fourth-generation Swift is set to make its global debut in July of next year, and will most likely go on sale as an MY2023 model by the end of 2022. The next-generation Swift will be based on the Heartect architecture, but it will be a more advanced version than the current iteration. Security, handling, and comfort can all be improved with the new platform.

Swift’s most important market in India. India absorbs roughly 60% of all Swift sold worldwide. This demonstrates Swift’s importance in the Indian market. After a few months in Japan, new versions of the Swift are released in India. The next-generation Swift Hybrid is supposed to be the same.

New Mild Hybrid Powertrain:

• The most significant discovery is the vehicle’s powertrain. Suzuki offers a complete hybrid system in the new and previous generations of Swift in Japan, but this technology is unlikely to be available in other foreign markets. Other markets could benefit from mild-hybrid technology, which would use a stronger 48-volt system rather than the existing 12-volt system. This translates to increased performance as well as improved fuel consumption.
• The 1.2-liter K12 Dualjet petrol engine, which was introduced into the Swift lineup in India under the most recent update this year, should remain the base engine. This engine is currently rated at 89 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of peak torque. It’ll be interesting to see the hybrid technology Maruti Suzuki chooses for the Indian market, as neither the 12V nor the 48V options are currently available.

Swift Sport:

• According to the latest article, Swift Sport’s top-spec model will likely use the same K14D 1.4-liter Boosterjet engine with a 48V mild-hybrid configuration. This motor produces 127 bhp and a maximum torque of 253 Nm. A WA06B electric motor produces an additional 10 kW (14 bhp) and 53 Nm from the battery pack.
• It will also have a battery recovery system, which will store electrical energy recovered from braking and deceleration. In India, this variant is unlikely to be available. The new Swift is also expected to have some new features. Suzuki announced its long-term plan to achieve complete electrification in February of this year.
• The Japanese automaker is currently working on a new complete hybrid system for next-generation models, with production set to begin in 2025. Suzuki’s electrification strategy includes the introduction of electric powertrains for small, mini, and commercial vehicles, as well as the introduction of new plug-in hybrid models.
