The congress party paid tribute to the veteran leader captain Satish Sharma; who passed away on February 17 at the age of 73. He was the most loyal person to the Gandhi family. He also mentored Rahul Gandhi in his early days of politics. He died in Goa. He was born on 11th October 1947 in Andhra Pradesh.
His funeral was held in Delhi today. Although Mr Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Wednesday
that ‘’ I’m very sad to hear the demise of captain Satish Sharma. My love and condolence are with family and friends. We will miss him.’’
Mr Satish Sharma was the union minister of petroleum and natural gas from 1993 to 1996 in the Narasimha Rao led Congress government. He was also the Rajya sabha member for three terms. The three times Lok sabha MP represented the Raebareli and Amethi constituency.
He first became a member of Rajya sabha in June 1986 and was later elected to the Lok Sabha from Amethi in 1991 after the demise of Rajiv Gandhi.
He was also a professional commercial pilot.
