New Delhi: 17,000 New Cases, Hotels, and Banquet Halls Convert into Hospitals

The covid-19 cases are at their peak in the capital Delhi. Within the past 24 hours, 17,282 news cases have been observed with 104 deaths.

The new COVID-19 cases have been observed from the active 1.08 lakh tests- 73,915 RT-PCR and 34,619 rapid antigen test. A 15.92% of positivity rate has been observed, which is the highest ever in Delhi. However, earlier in November, there was a positivity rate of 15.33%.

“There are no ICU beds available in most big hospitals, both public and private. There is no sign of the outbreak ebbing either,” said a doctor at AIIMS, further said, if the cases continue to rise, the health infrastructure may collapse”.

As of now, Delhi has 50,736 active covid cases, of these 24,155 almost half are in-home quarantine.

To control such a havoc condition, the Delhi government on Wednesday turned 15 hotels into “extended covid hospitals” by linking them to private hospitals. They limit the price to rs. 5000 for staying in a five-star hotel and 4,000 for four or three-star hotels. Thus, 3,000 beds will be added there with the provision of moving patients to the linked hospitals, in case of severe health conditions during their stay.

The list of converted hotels are:-

  • Crown Plaza in Okhla phase 1
  • Shalimar Bagh
  • ITC welcome in dwarka
  • Radisson blue in Paschim vihar
  • Surya in new friends colony

The government also ordered the transformation of several banquet halls into temporary covid hospitals. One includes the Yamuna sports complex. Doing so would make about 1,100 beds available in the city.
