Although Mercedes-Benz is telling the world what the Mercedes-Benz EQS can do, it has yet to show the world how it would look without the camouflage. On April 15, there will be an online reveal function.
The EQS is a momentous vehicle from Mercedes-Benz, more aerodynamic than any previous production car, and capable of driving faster than any other EV on the market today. This huge and luxurious car can travel up to 770 kilometers before recharging its battery pack, thanks to its world-record-breaking low-drag form.
The driving was done by the head EQS testing engineer, who discussed the technical highlights and answered questions. Frank Wundrak begins with the fundamentals. Mercedes-Benz EQS is a long five-seat hatchback with a wide cargo area and spacious interior.
“Now we are sitting in the EQS 450 Plus,” he says. “It’s the rear-wheel-drive car. It has an output power of 245kW and a maximum torque of 550Nm.”
The 450 Plus is the EQS driving range king, according to the engineer. This model’s wheels have a unique low-drag style, making it the aero record-setter with a Cd of 0.20.
“With the big battery we have a range up to 770km,” he says. Using the same WLTP test norm, this is over 100 kilometers more than any existing Tesla can say.
The EQS, according to Wundrak, can use the new generation DC quick chargers. “We can charge up to 300 kilometers in 15 minutes, so even if you need to break for a charge, you can get back on the road quickly.”
The EQS is a cutting-edge vehicle. But there’s more to it than that. “It’s the first model based on Mercedes-latest Benz’s electric vehicle architecture,” says Wundrak. “We call it EVA,” says the narrator.
