International Happiness Day 2021: History, Theme and Importance

The theme of international happiness day 2021 is “Happiness for all, forever” which signifies happiness for all people in the world. 

International happiness day is celebrated on 20th March of every year, to highlight the importance of happiness in the regular lives of people. The theme of this year’s international happiness day of this year is “happiness for all, forever” which signifies happiness for all people in the world. 

Importance of the day

The happiness day is perceived as the most important element in everybody’s life, as the happiness will lead to good economic growth in the countries along with sustainable development. Happiness is related to the well-being of everybody. Happiness plays an important role while settling the public policy objectives, as it will take care of the public needs and demand. 

History of the day

The United Nations started celebrating international happiness day in 2013, though the resolution was passed on July 12, 2012. The resolution was first initiated by Bhutan to foreground the importance of national happiness over national income since the early 1970s. Thus, adopting the gross happiness over gross national product. 

International happiness day 2021 report

The international happiness day 2021 report released by the United Nations sustainable development solutions network on Friday revealed that the coronavirus pandemic has stolen the happiness of all. In the observed report of the United Nations, Finland was ranked the happiest country in the world, for the fourth time consecutively. Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, and the Netherlands ranked second, third, and fourth positions, sequentially. Afghanistan ranked as the least happy country. While India ranked 139 out of 149 nations. As per the 2020 report, India has ranked 144 out of 156 countries.

The survey used the Gallup world poll through which people were able to vote three indicators of life such as life evaluations, positive emotions, and negative emotions. Aside from this, the survey also concluded the evaluated data related to GDP (gross domestic product), of the different countries and some other indicators of life such as expectancy, social support, freedom to make decisions. 

Although, we should stay happy always, as being happy is not about how much money you have, or how good your social status is. But happiness is a state of mind or a choice. If you choose to be happy rather than sticking to unnecessary competition or envy, you are really living your life.
