Mercedes-Benz sold 590,999 passenger cars worldwide in the first quarter of 2021, owing to the high demand for plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles in China and the United States. In comparison to the same time last year, revenues have increased by 22.3 percent globally.
Given the positive start, the company plans to introduce three new models this year: the EQS, EQB, and EQE.
Mercedes-Benz sales in the Asia-Pacific region increased by 46.6 percent, owing to continued strong sales growth in China, which set a new record with 222,520 cars delivered in Q1. In January, China’s vehicle sales nearly hit 100,000 in a single month.
Despite ongoing lockdown initiatives in many countries, brand deliveries in Europe were slightly above Q1 2020 at the start of the year. Mercedes-Benz sold 54,446 cars in Germany, a 15.4% decrease, while sales in North America totaled 88,318 units, a 12.5 percent increase.
In India, the company saw a 34% increase in revenue in the first quarter of 2020, boosted by good January and February sales that stayed at pre-COVID levels.
