  • Villagers believed that Lord Indra will become angry if they didn’t worship him. Hence, he will then stop the rain. Which will lead to scarcity of grains.

  • Lord Krishna explained to them, it’s not Lord Indra it’s Govardhan Mountain, who helps to bring rain. Hence, they all should worship Govardhan Parvat.

  • Because of this Lord Indra, become angry. He took out his anger on the villagers of Vrindavan.
  • Lord Indra, began heavy rains. Due to which villagers have to face heavy floods.
  • People then start finding space to hide.
  • Then, Lord Krishna comes and saves villagers/cattle from disaster.
  • Lord Krishna, tells people to do puja of Govardhan Parvat.
  • Villagers then start worshipping Govardhan Hill.
  • With the help of his little finger, Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill. So, that everybody can take shelter.
  • Lord Krishna, lifted the Govardhan Hill for seven days and seven nights. Because of which he is also known as ‘Giridhari”.
