Amar Ujala spoke to Dr. Satyakant Trivedi, Senior Psychiatrist, to know about the addiction to porn movies. Dr. Satyakant explains the desire to watch porn movies can happen at any age. It is quite normal for teenagers to be attracted to porn movies, although we should always take care that it does not turn into an addiction.
This problem is increasing rapidly among children and adolescents due to the increasing access to pornography on the Internet. Earlier pornographic material used to be available as a readable means but now it is just a click away from you due to the internet.
Its increasing prevalence in children is especially worrying, as their brains are developing at this time. If it is not taken care of in time, then it can cause many problems in lifelong mental health and personality.
Psychiatrist Dr. Satyakant says that there is no exact scale to define why people are falling prey to pornography. There can be many reasons for this. You may have started seeing it just to deal with loneliness, boredom, anxiety, or depression, however gradually our brains get used to it so much that it becomes a part of your daily routine. Any such habit can create problems for you mentally.
Dr. Satyakant says, not giving sex education to children can also be the main reason for this addiction. In some people, this problem can also occur due to changes in brain chemicals due to biological reasons.
Dr. Satyakant says, if you enjoy watching porn, it does not mean that you have become addicted to it. Porn addiction means that you do not want to watch it but then also you watch it, you do not feel comfortable without watching porn, or have a set time of the day in which you must watch porn.
Apart from this, it is also very important for you to recognize porn addiction and try to get rid of it.
According to Dr. Satyakant, parents can play a big role in protecting children from porn addiction. Keep checking children’s mobiles and computers. If porn videos are found on children’s phones or computers, when you enter the room, if the child panics, turns off the mobile/computer, or changes the screen, you should be careful.
When their child starts Deleting internet history from computer/mobile, staying online for a long time at night, starting online activities after everyone is asleep can be a sign that your child is addicted to porn. Do not panic or beat the child by this.
These problems can be corrected by making some changes in the lifestyle of children. Increase children’s offline activities include activities like sports yoga-pranayama in children’s routine.
Dr. Satyakant explains, since porn addiction is not considered a medical condition, there is no specific treatment for it. However, by using some measures and therapy, this addiction can be got rid of. If you think that your habit of watching porn has taken the form of an uncontrolled addiction, then definitely consult a psychiatrist about this. Your doctor can get rid of this problem based on counseling and some lifestyle changes.
