Due to record-breaking rain and heavy snowfall, entire north India, including Delhi, has been blanketed with a blanket of cold. People in Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh spend the entire day sitting in front of their bonfires due to the cold weather.
On the other hand, a sheet of fog has begun to cover Delhi. The situation has deteriorated to the point where visibility has been reduced to zero during the day.
Aside from that, snowfall has made life difficult in some hilly areas of Kashmir, Shimla, and Uttarakhand.
This year’s rain in the capital in January has broken a 121-year-old record. This much rain fell in the first month of the year in 1901, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. So far, it has rained 88.2 mm, according to IMD.
Previously, in 1989, January received 73.7 mm of rain. According to the Meteorological Department’s forecast, there is a chance of light rain in Delhi-NCR today due to light to moderate rain in the Himalayan region.
Aside from that, light rain is possible in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and West Bengal.
Rain is expected to reduce the average temperature by three to four degrees. This will exacerbate the melting and freezing. There is a possibility of rain in some parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
