Maa Kushmanda is also known as the Goddess Ashta Bhuja due to her eight hands. Kushmanda means one who created this universe in the form of a small cosmic egg.

Navratri Day 4: Maa Kushmanda Puja Vidhi

  • Devotees worship Maa Kushmanda, and flowers and special food are offered to her.
  • People also offer her milk, coconut, and different kinds of sweets.
  • After performing the puja, the sweets offered to Maa are given to her devotees as Prasad.
  • Devotees read Stotra path and Kavach while offering prayers in the morning and perform aarti in the evening.

वन्दे वांछित कामर्थेचन्द्रार्घकृतशेखराम्।

सिंहरूढाअष्टभुजा कुष्माण्डायशस्वनीम्॥

सुरासम्पूर्णकलशं रुधिराप्लुतमेव च।

दधाना हस्तपद्माभ्यां कूष्माण्डा शुभदास्तु मे॥

  • This incarnation of Goddess Durga is believed to have created the universe with a smile that radiated incredible energy.
  • She also symbolizes divine spark. Devotees offer prayers to Goddess Kushmanda to achieve salvation.
  • She is hailed as the one who dispels darkness to give birth to light. The word Kushmanda in Sanskrit is made of two words – Ku (little), ushma (energy or heat), and anda (egg).
  • Kushmanda’s pictorial depiction shows her with eight hands, and hence she is also called Ashtabhuja Devi.
  • She holds a lotus, bow, and arrow and a kamandal in the right hands and a discus, mace, a jaapmala, and a Kalash in the left hands.
  • The Goddess, who is mounted on a lion, governs the Sun. Therefore, people worship her to get rid of the illness.

Devotees wear orange-colored outfits on Day 4 while offering prayers to the goddess.

सुरासम्पूर्ण कलशं रुधिराप्लुतमेव च।

दधाना हस्तपद्माभ्यां कूष्माण्डा शुभदास्तु मे॥

Surasampurna Kalasham Rudhiraplutameva Cha।

Dadhana Hastapadmabhyam Kushmanda Shubhadastu Me॥

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु माँ कूष्माण्डा रूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Kushmanda Rupena Samsthita।

Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah॥

कूष्मांडा जय जग सुखदानी।

मुझ पर दया करो महारानी॥

पिगंला ज्वालामुखी निराली।

शाकंबरी मां भोली भाली॥

लाखों नाम निराले तेरे ।

भक्त कई मतवाले तेरे॥

भीमा पर्वत पर है डेरा।

स्वीकारो प्रणाम ये मेरा॥

सबकी सुनती हो जगदम्बे।
