By 2025, General Motors expects to launch 30 new electric vehicles worldwide. This amped-up (literally) onslaught includes the upcoming 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, or electric utility vehicle, aside from fancy Cadillacs and rugged Hummers. The Bolt EUV and Bolt EV are based on the same design and look very similar, but no sheet metal is distributed between the two.
The latest EUV does not have the most comely proportions given its Bolt bones, appearing somewhat narrow and even more top-heavy due to its added height. The face of the vehicle has some interesting parts, but overall, it’s still a fairly generic kit, which may be an issue. The 2022 Bolt EUV is competing with cars such as the BMW i3 and Hyundai Kona Electric, although it can also be cross-shopped with the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E.
The exteriors of the Bolt EUV and Bolt EV may not be very interesting, but their shared cabin has been significantly enhanced. This new interior, with a sweeping dashboard layout and attractive fabrics, is much better than what you get in the current Bolt. New front bucket seats are included in both Bolts, which should be more comfortable than before.
In the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV, a single-motor drive unit that offers 200 horsepower and a powerful 266 pound-feet of torque, only one propulsion system is provided, exactly the same as what you get in the Bolt EV. Unfortunately, all-wheel drive is not on the menu. As the electron reservoir, a 65-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack serves to allow the EUV to drive 250 miles between charges, slightly less than the Bolt EV, which can go 259 miles.
The EUV comes with a new dual-level charging cord as standard. It enables you to juice the vehicle at up to 7.2 kW from either a 120-volt household outlet or a 240-volt socket. Both bolts support up to 11 kW Level 2 charging and, when connected to a DC fast charger, can consume about 100 miles of range in 30 minutes.
